FAQBLANK Canvas AcademyDublin, Ireland

What is BLANK Canvas?

BLANK Canvas is Ireland's first Design-to-Reality creative technology programme. Children learn how to design in 3D and see their ideas transformed into physical creations through 3D printing.

Who is the programme for?

Our programmes are designed for primary school children and are tailored to suit different age groups and experience levels.

No previous experience is required.

What will my child learn?

Children will learn:

  • The fundamentals of 3D design
  • Creative problem-solving
  • Design thinking
  • Digital literacy skills
  • How ideas move from concept to creation

Most importantly, they will experience the satisfaction of creating something entirely their own.

Does my child need to know how to code?

No.

BLANK Canvas focuses on creativity, design and digital making. No coding experience is required.

What software do children use?

Children use age-appropriate 3D design software selected specifically for educational settings.

All instruction and support is provided as part of the programme.

Does my child get to keep their creation?

Yes.

Throughout the programme, children will develop their own original designs and selected projects will be transformed into physical creations through 3D printing.

Children will receive their completed printed creations and will also receive a digital portfolio showcasing their work and progress throughout the programme.

What age groups do you cater for?

BLANK Canvas is designed primarily for 4th, 5th and 6th class students (typically ages 10–12).

Programme content is tailored to suit the age and experience level of participating students.

How long does the programme run?

BLANK Canvas is typically delivered as a 10-week programme, aligned with the school term.

Each session builds on the previous week's learning, allowing children to progress from their first designs through to completed physical creations and a final portfolio of work.

Is previous design or technology experience required?

Not at all.

Our programmes are designed for complete beginners as well as children who already have an interest in design, technology or making.

Are facilitators Garda vetted?

Facilitators working directly with children are required to be Garda vetted.

Where programmes are delivered in partnership with schools, Garda vetting may be processed through the relevant school's procedures.

How do you keep children safe?

The safety and wellbeing of children is a priority for BLANK Canvas.

We operate child safeguarding procedures, maintain public liability insurance and have appointed safeguarding contacts responsible for overseeing child welfare matters.

Further information is available in our Child Safeguarding Statement.

Do you take photographs during programmes?

Photographs may be taken to document student work, celebrate achievements and support programme promotion.

Where photographs or videos may identify a child, appropriate parental or guardian consent will be obtained in advance.

Parents and guardians may withdraw consent at any time.
